Make Your Own Desktop Oracle

I love signs, symbols, and synchronicity. I imagine this is true for any tarot reader; it's what we do, after all.

Here's an easy and fast tutorial on making your computer desktop into a daily oracle, so when you switch it on every day you'll get a special message or sign.

Just a note: I have a Mac, so this tutorial is based on that. You can probably do something similar on your Windows computer.

First, gather your oracle images and messages from the web. What I've collected are images of my favourite goddesses -- Durga, Lakshmi, Kali, Saraswati --  and some pretty wallpapers, but you can really use anything that inspires you. You might want to gather inspiring quote images, tarot cards, photos of crystals, mandalas... whatever turns you on. And, of course, you can create your own images, you creatrix, you.

Since this is going to be desktop wallpaper, large, high-resolution images are going to be best. Google Images has a handy search function that sorts the images you've searched for by size (amongst other things).

Download your oracle images -- I recommend at least seven so you get a nice mix -- into a folder on your computer.

Next, set up your wallpaper to get a random image from your oracle folder everyday. Here's the how-to:
1. Right-click on your desktop, and choose "Change Desktop Background".
2. Click the little + sign, and then navigate to your folder of oracle images.
3. If your images don't fit the screen exactly, you can choose a colour to fill in the blank space. I like black. I also like the "Fit to Screen" setting the best as it won't stretch or skew the images.
4. In the checkboxes at the bottom of the window, check "Change Picture:" and choose the frequency from the drop down menu. I chose everyday, but you might want to switch things up more often.
5. Also check "Random Order". This adds that magical randomness to the whole thing.

You are set! Enjoy your daily desktop oracle. I'd love to know what kind of images you used; tell me in the comments. xo.
